ASSISTANT DEPARTMENT HEAD – JOB #2355
The Assistant Department Head position in the History, Languages, Social Sciences and Education Department is a 12-month administrative position. The Assistant Department Head will assist the department head with the administration of the department with duties to include, but not limited to, supervising department faculty and staff, advising students, observing and evaluating faculty, performing curriculum review and development, teaching courses, providing assistance in the hiring of full-time and part-time instructors, assisting with the management of the departmental budget, participating in the recruitment and retention of students, and performing other duties as assigned. This position reports to the District Academic Department Head, History, Languages, and Social Sciences.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Graduation from a regionally accredited institution with a master’s degree in history, philosophy, a foreign language, one of the social or behavioral sciences, or a related area; and two years teaching or administrative experience. Must be qualified by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) to teach in one of disciplines in the department. Successful results of a criminal background check are required.
Pursuant to College policy, it is an employment eligibility requirement for an applicant to meet the requirements of § 435.04(2), Florida Statutes, related to background investigations. Any person failing to meet the requirements of the statute will be deemed not qualified to hold employment in this position. A Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) approved background check will be conducted on every successful candidate as a condition of employment, and any person who fails to disclose any adverse information contained in the background investigation at the time of submitting the employment application will be disqualified from employment.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Full-time teaching experience in a post-secondary institution; supervisory experience in an academic environment; and experience in the assessment of student learning outcomes.
SALARY RANGE: $45,000.00 - $55,000.00 (Depending on the qualifications, the salary is negotiable.)
