Detailed Job Description

The IT Technical Specialist III performs advanced professional IT activities for a specialized, complex assignment or functional area requiring application of an advanced professional knowledge of IT principles, practices, and procedures. Requires evaluation, originality or ingenuity. May supervise and/or direct the work of project teams or other lower level staff.

Additional Department Summary:

This position has responsibility for providing technical and applications support for all computer related functions in the assigned area. Duties may include planning, designing, implementing and supporting all IT infrastructure needs including servers, desktops, control equipment for research instrumentation, and audio visual systems; providing direct assistance to constituents in the area and serve as trainer or training coordinator for all relevant technology for the area; and/or creating and managing of relational databases and integration of databases with web pages. This position's primary purpose is to be network and computer administrator for the Center for Materials for Information Technology (MINT). It provides for the day to day needs of researchers, computer systems, measurement equipment, and students for a wide variety of information technology related challenges.

Required Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and 2 years professional IT experience, OR Master's degree in related field, OR any equivalent combination of experience, training, education and/or certification from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been obtained. Knowledge of advanced programming, networking, system, multimedia, instructional technology skills or project management methods and applications. May require intermediate or advanced level training or certification.

Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications:

Knowledge of intermediate networking, system, multimedia or laboratory technology skills.

Skills and Knowledge:

Experience with Microsoft technologies including Windows XP, 7,8, Windows Server 2003, 2008, 2012, Exchange 2010, SQL Server 2008, 2012. Highly skilled in VMware Vsphere and Horizon View. Comfortable with Linux Operating systems and applications including MySQL, Apache, and Wordpress. Effective time management skills and ability to work independently on multiple projects simultaneously.

Preferred Qualifications:

The ability to be flexible and learn quickly on a variety of new and legacy systems. Preferred previous experience in a university or research environment. 58 Monthly (exempt): - Minimum - $ 37835.16 Midpoint - $ 54870.36
