Western Oregon University (WOU) invites applications for the position of Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.  The Dean is the chief administrator of the College and oversees seven academic divisions: Business and Economics; Computer Science, Creative Arts, Humanities, Natural Sciences and Mathematics, Psychology, and Social Science. The divisions are further subdivided into traditional departments with a total faculty body of approximately  200.  The College delivers about 70% of the university’s academic operations with the College of Education providing the remainder. The College offers a limited number of master’s level graduate programs. The Dean reports directly to the Vice President for Academic Affairs and interacts extensively with other university offices. The College operates in a culture of shared governance and strong support of the intrinsic value of the liberal arts.


  • The terminal degree in one’s academic discipline (PhD preferred) and academic experience commensurate with appointment as a tenured, full professor in an academic unit of the College. 
  • Demonstrated record of increasingly complex management and decision making processes involving budgeting, personnel, curriculum development, assessment, inter-disciplinary program development.
  • Possess a collegial style of engagement with faculty, students and alumni
  • Conversant with contemporary issues in higher education and experienced in engagement with external agencies and organizations.
