Miami University invites applications for the position of Associate General Counsel. The Associate General Counsel reports directly to the General Counsel and must work independently on a wide range of complex and novel topics. The position requires unimpeachable integrity, ability to work in a fast-paced legal environment and abundant good humor.

The Associate General Counsel is expected to work collaboratively within the University community in a respectful, efficient and proactive manner.  The Associate General Counsel must be able to communicate with internal and external audiences to represent the University's position in a clear and positive manner.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A Juris Doctorate degree from an ABA-accredited law school
  • Five or more years of progressive responsibility and experience practicing law in a firm, in-house, or University/College setting
  • Demonstrated strong client- service perspective
  • Strong legal research abilities, advocacy and problem solving skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Admitted and in good standing with the Ohio Supreme Court and Federal Bar (for the Southern District of Ohio), or ability to gain admission within 1 year

Preferred Qualifications

Strong candidates will have:
  • Experience with college/university issues
  • Ability to act independently, take initiative and exercise sound judgment
  • Experience with regulatory and compliance matters
  • Ability to resolve issues through negotiation
  • Ability to manage multiple, on-going and complex matters
  • Significant experience in any of the following: Intellectual property law; general business law; general litigation; public construction law
