Detailed Job Description

Under general supervision, provides Bosnian translation support services during SLUCare appointments at a variety of locations; assists with telephone communications with Bosnian-speaking patients and translates patient related program documents into Bosnian. When not directly translating, will assist the social work department with the scheduling of interpreter from outside agencies for other languages for SLUCare appointments.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Personal Characteristics

Knowledge of medical terminology/prior experience as a medical interpreter; Interpersonal/human relation skills; Communication skills; Organization skills; Basic computer literacy; Fluency in Bosnian and English languages; Ability to maintain confidentiality.

Minimum Qualifications

High school degree; supplemented with two (2) years of related experience as an interpreter, medical experience preferred. Successful completion of medical interpretation training program required upon hire.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

Provides translator services for Bosnian-speaking patients from registration through completion of the medical encounter.

Works with clinic coordinators to schedule Bosnian-speaking patients within the translator schedule.

Assists clinics and providers with over the phone translation services for scheduling appointments, test result, and other clinical appointments.

Assists with scheduling interpreters for all SLUCare appointments by running daily IDX reports of upcoming patient appointments with interpreter needs and entering these appointments into the contracted interpreter agency’s website.

Translates patient related program documents into Bosnian language, performs other duties as assigned.
