Director of Career Services - The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy-16001032
The Office of Career Services (OCS) is a critical administrative department of The Fletcher School. Students often measure the success of their Fletcher experience based on their interaction with, and support from, the OCS. A well regarded career services/career development office is vital to the School's ability to attract the very best prospective students and to enhance the School's reputation.
The OCS plans, directs, organizes, and administers a comprehensive program of careers services for a diverse group of high expectation graduate, professional school students from across the globe seeking career positions and internships in international affairs in the public, private, and non-profit sectors. The mission of the OCS is to help empower students to realize life-long career success through education, networking and coaching. The OCS partners with students to achieve career and professional objectives.
The OCS department provides comprehensive career development assistance to graduate students and alumni across Fletcher's seven degree programs. Services include a required semester length Professional Development Program (PDP), individual career advising (coaching), drop in hours, online resources including job and internship listings, workshops, advising at the nexus of academic concentration and professional options, career trips, networking and presentations with alumni and employers, job and internship search assistance. The OCS works closely with recruiters and employers, Fletcher alumni and friends, to arrange information sessions, resume collections, and interviews for Fletcher students. The OCS works closely with other administrative departments at Fletcher and in particular Admissions, Alumni Affairs, Student Affairs, and the administrators who support the career needs of students in the School's more specialized degree programs (MIB, LLM, MA, GMAP, and PhD).
The Director of Career Services leads, directs and evaluates effective and comprehensive career services, programs and strategies for The Fletcher School. S/he will manage a team of 6 career services professionals including hiring, training and developing staff. The Director will oversee the provision of career advising to Fletcher students; partner with internal and external constituents, including faculty, administrative colleagues, alumni, Board members, friends of the School, and prospective employers to build support for career services. S/he will oversee and evaluate innovative programming to ensure that students and alumni are prepared for careers after Fletcher. The Director develops and maintains relationships with key industry employers and represents the School at on-campus and off-campus events and on Fletcher working groups and committees. In addition s/he will oversee department operations including financial management of budgets, facilities and space planning, information technology assessment and planning, and long term strategic planning with the EAD, Academic Dean, and the Dean of The Fletcher School. The OCS Director is a member of the Dean's senior administrative staff.
• Master's degree with 8-10 years experience in a highly competitive professional environment preferably in a professional school career office or a leading organization in the public, private, or non-profit sector.
• Demonstrated track record in marketing and relationship building and maintenance.
• Demonstrated skills in interpersonal relations, leadership and management including communication, problem solving, decision making, and planning.
• Dynamic personality.
• Ability to work collaboratively and thrive in a fast paced environment.
• Ability to build and maintain a strong office team.
• Knowledge of and experience in international affairs.
• Sophisticated approach to using technology and communication skills to support mission and goals.
• Willingness to conduct significant travel both domestically and internationally.
Special Work Schedule Requirements:
Position requires domestic and on occasion international travel; and attendance at, or leadership, of early morning and evening events.
