The Chief Information Officer (CIO) is the information systems architect for the UT system and provides technology vision and leadership in the development and implementation of the University-wide information technology program. The CIO is responsible for shared systems and services, the federated network among entities and IT infrastructure of entities; maintaining economical state-of-the-art technology, personnel, infrastructure, software and outsourced services for the University; security, legal and policy compliance of all networks and information systems; and is the University point of contact with federal, state and local law enforcement. The CIO is appointed by the Executive Vice President.
The CIO is responsible for providing cost-effective and integrated IT services; continuing the University's IT reorganization; planning for the long-term future of IT; acquiring and integrating academic and administrative applications; determining budget and technology resource requirements and creatively meeting these requirements; establishing and managing standards, policies, guidelines and security practices for technology use and the strategic planning and administrative oversight for IT staff. The CIO partners with campus/institute leadership to ensure that enterprise systems meet entity needs. The CIO serves, as directed, on various committees, commissions, boards and constituency organizations.
This position requires a Master's degree and five years of progressively responsible administrative experience in information technology. Requires administrative technology experience for a complex institution, preferably a major research or education institution; previous experience as a senior information security officer; and expertise in IT service management methodologies, such as the IT Infrastructure Library. Experience should also include exposure to both shared and outsourced solutions, as well as support of in-house information and communication systems in a multi-site client-server environment. Demonstrated experience in comprehension of complex, technical subjects; ability to translate technical language to lay audiences; ability to link and apply complex technologies to business strategies and proven negotiation skills with vendors, contractors, and others.
