The Compliance Officer will have primary responsibility for providing general oversight and managing the day-to-day responsibilities associated with the University’s compliance obligations with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, as amended, Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 along with the Violence Against Women Act Reauthorization of 2012 (VAWA) and the Dear Colleague letter of 2011, Sections 503 and 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967, Executive Order 11246, as amended, the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, the ADA Amendments Act of 2008, the Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act of 2008, and the state civil rights statutes. Reporting to General Counsel, the Compliance Officer will collaborate with Human Resources, President’s Staff, Associate Vice President of Student Affairs, Counseling and Psychological Services, Residence Life, Campus Safety & Security, University Deans, and Saint Leo Athletics to manage compliance and accommodations with these laws and policies. The Compliance Officer will also collaborate with appropriate offices on campus to ensure that faculty, staff, and students are aware of their options and resources with respect to reporting and filing complaints. The Compliance Officer will be responsible for overseeing the collecting of relevant facts related to the reported incidents and assessing whether a further review or investigation is necessary in order to ensure the safety of the impacted person(s) and the community. As a neutral party, the Compliance Officer will investigate alleged discrimination; notify and interview complainants, respondents, and witnesses; obtain and review relevant documents; and issue factual findings and recommendations, as necessary.
• Implement and manage campus policies related to the laws, acts, and guidelines listed above.
• Receive and process inquiries and discrimination complaints from the campus community and third parties in a timely manner, providing a fair and neutral process for all parties.
• Develop and implement case management plan for each reported incident.
• Develop investigation plans for each complaint.
• Conduct investigations.
• Recruit, train, and provide leadership to staff who serve as investigators.
• Write comprehensive reports of investigation with findings of fact and recommendation(s).
• Monitor and manage incidents to ensure an efficient and effective response to complaints.
• Continuously identify and integrate best practices in the investigation arena into knowledge base and practice; Advocate for improvements in the investigatory process.
• Stay abreast of current movements in the field of conduct investigations.
• Develop and disseminate educational materials and in-service training tailored to faculty, staff, and students; Refer resources to faculty, staff, and students who could benefit from supplementary support during the investigation.
• Prepare annual statistical report on the number, nature and disposition of complaints. Identify patterns and make recommendations.
• Serve as university expert on policy compliance and provide consultation to senior officers as necessary

• JD from an accredited law school required
• Minimum of 5+ years of progressively responsible experience in a related field
• Experience conducting investigations alleging discrimination and issues related to gender based violence
• Demonstrated knowledge of applicable laws and regulations such as Title VI, Title VII, Title IX, VAWA and ADA
• Effective project management, organization and analytical skills
• Strong presentation and facilitation skills with an emphasis on education and training for a variety of constituencies
• Strong written communication skills
• Excellent attention to detail, strong problem-solving skills, the ability to deal with confidential and sensitive information
• Demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusivity, as well as the ability to work with a wide range of constituencies (staff, students, faculty, parents, administrators) with diplomacy and tact
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to remain a neutral party
• Ability to manage multiple, on-going and complex caseload of related incidents and complaints
• Ability to guide, advise, and support the training and learning process
• Ability to build relationships and establish collaborative partnerships across the institution
• Ability to act independently, take initiative and exercise sound judgment
• Ability to maintain the highest degree of confidentiality and professional discretion
