Reporting to the Controller, the Director of Treasury Operations will be responsible for key functions associated with cash management, endowment investment accounting, debt issuance and tax compliance. The Director will support the Controller in the compilation of the University’s tax filings including Form 990, Form 990T, 1042-S and other general tax filings and assist in the year-end closing process ensuring that financial statements and internal and external reporting are prepared to the highest standard.
Ensure investment transactions are recorded appropriately in the general ledger/financial statements and reconciled in a timely manner to comply with donor requirements on endowed and other restricted funds.
Assist the Executive Director of Finance and Controller with financial reporting for the Investment and Finance Committee meetings.
Manages university relationships with banking partners and performs daily cash management and forecasting activities to ensure adequate liquidity at all times.
Assists in bond issuance process and administering post-issuance compliance efforts including the timely completion of continuing disclosure, covenant calculations, rating agency reporting and related filing requirements.
Serve as the primary liaison to the Advancement Office to make sure donor reporting is accurate and timely and address inquiries from Advancement staff.
Support the Controller tax reporting and compliance including the Form 990, 1042S and other tax filings.
Provide assistance with the monthly and fiscal year end closing processes ensuring that the University’s financial statements are prepared to the highest standards. Confirm that investment balances and transactions are appropriately disclosed in the financial statements and accompanying footnotes.
Review existing treasury processes and procedures and make recommendations for new procedures and methods designed to minimize risk, strengthen internal controls, and improve efficiency.
Minimum of 5 to 7 years of experience preferably in a higher education treasury, accounting or similar department.
Responsibilities require a bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field, CPA and/or MS/MBA strongly preferred.
Work experience with cash management, banking, debt management, investment functions and related compliance.
Must be highly detail-oriented with strong analytical, problem-solving, financial and organizational skills.
Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills are required.
Knowledge of the tax code as it relates to higher education (Form 990/990T) is strongly preferred.
