Berklee College of Music invites applications for two part-time faculty positions in the Harmony Department.  During the required four semesters of Harmony, students study common popular harmonic practice, melodic development, and melody/harmony relationships in contemporary styles. Students learn basic theory, analyze pop, rock and jazz tunes, and apply their knowledge of topics in writing projects. With the work in other Core departments, this provides the crucial foundation and working vocabulary for students’ major studies.  Initial appointment to begin September 2016. Compensation is commensurate with professional experience. 

Responsibilities:

 Teach first-year courses in the Harmony Department

 Attend departmental meetings

 Gather and/or create curricular materials to support the courses taught

 Learn to use the Learning Management System to support classroom instruction

 Learn the scope and sequence of the core curriculum to prepare for future teaching assignments

Required Skills:

 Master's degree required, M. MusEd is a strong plus

 Solid keyboard skills:

    o  ability to show keyboard as a learning modality for core subjects

    o  ability to fluently demonstrate voice led progressions from a lead sheet

 Classroom teaching experience in harmony/theory

 Experience teaching ear training and/or arranging is a plus

 Willingness to adhere to a structured curriculum

 Professional-level skills in sequencing and notation software

 Willingness to use these skills to create curricular materials and to share documents with students

 Experience with a wide variety of current styles as a writer and/or player

 Commitment to using this stylistic breadth in the classroom

 Active as a performer or writer

 Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
