The University of Pittsburgh is currently seeking a qualified candidate to fulfill the Director of Admissions & Financial Aid Information Systems position in the Admissions & Financial Aid department.

The Director of Admissions & Financial Aid Information Systems (DAFAIS) is responsible for directing information services operations required to meet technology and business needs for the Office of Admissions & Financial Aid (OAFA). The DAFAIS reports to the Chief Enrollment Officer (CEO) and serves the CEO, OAFA, the Office of the Provost, and the university in support of meeting enrollment objectives for the Pittsburgh and regional campuses.The DAFAIS works collaboratively with the CEO and other members of OAFA to identify technology solutions while ensuring user needs are addressed comprehensively and effectively.

  • The DAFAIS provides leadership, direction, and support for Web development, database management, mainframe systems, network support, Oracle Campus Solutions and software/hardware purchases.
  • The DAFAIS provides leadership in the development of short and long-term plans to lead the implementation of software, as well as determining courses of action in dealing with anticipated changes by supporting others in understanding change processes and adapting to change.
  • The DAFAIS plans and manages organizational change within the systems team, designs and implements new business processes and identifies potential resource requirements.
  • The DAFAIS is responsible for the management of a team of admissions and financial aid information systems staff members and leads the team in coordinating a proactive and integrated information services operation.
  • The DAFAIS demonstrates initiative to generate improvements, foster positive outcomes and provides strategic planning and vision with the goal of serving the information services needs of the entire Office of Admissions and Financial Aid operation.
  • The DAFAIS is responsible for the oversight, testing and implementation of all project plans associated with software development, replacement, conversion, and integration within the Computing Services and Systems Development (CSSD) framework at Pitt.
  • The DAFAIS maintains a close working relationship with CSSD while leading OAFA’s project and planning process, ensuring that optimal results for all parties will be achieved.
  • If needed, the DAFAIS will then coordinate and integrate these plans with other campus and third party technology solutions.

Additional Education and/or Experience Essential to the Position:

REQUIRED: Person must be mature, have 6-9 years of increasing responsibility and demonstrated experience with large data systems and systems analysis or a Master’s degree with five years demonstrated experience with large data systems and systems analysis. Position requires formal training or hands-on experience in one of each of the following technologies: Relational Database (Oracle, DB2, Access, MySQL); Operating systems (Unix, Linux, Windows 2000, Windows XP); SQL; HTML; support of LAN/WAN environments to include Windows 2000, Linux and Novell servers. This position requires supervisory experience; experience with Web development and PC based databases, query tools, data management and reporting; and demonstrated use of analytical skills to analyze requirements and design and develop systems to meet client needs.

The incumbent evaluates business processes, identifies system needs, and implements new hardware, software, and systems enhancements. Exercises judgment in solving systems problems.
