The Office of Assessment & Testing at Mission College is seeking a talented individual to fill the position of Education Testing & Technical Specialist.

Under direction of an assigned supervisor, administer a variety of tests including placement, proficiency, career and other tests; perform a variety of complex and specialized technical duties related to assigned area; schedule and maintain the testing site; serve as a liaison with District Information Systems Department in the selection, maintenance and repair of computer hardware or software; troubleshoot and maintain an effective testing environment; perform local computer/software installations, revisions, updates, and configurations when necessary; and provide information and assistance to students, faculty and staff regarding test procedures and results, and general information. Clear prerequisites as necessary. Compile and maintain various records related to tests administered and their results.

100% of full time, 37.5 hours per week, 12 months per year, with anticipated start date of April 20, 2016. Schedule may change to include some evening or weekend hours, as needed. This position is a member of the West Valley-Mission Classified Employees Association (WVMCEA), Office, Technical & Business Services Employee Unit.
Work Location: Mission College, Santa Clara, CA.
We have begun a district-wide classification study of all regular, non-faculty staff positions. A classification study is a process of studying, analyzing, and describing the nature and level of work performed by employees. This classification study will ultimately produce uniform job descriptions for every employee.
The classification study will also include a compensation study that will provide information on what other employers pay employees who are performing similar duties. The District will use this information to ensure that our employees are adequately compensated.
The classification study started in November 2014 and is expected to take approximately 12-18 months to complete. As a result of this study, it is possible for the job description and/or compensation to change in this position opening.
Any combination equivalent to:
1. Education – Associate’s degree with emphasis in computer science or related field;
2. Experience – Three years of increasingly responsible experience in the administering or monitoring assessment/testing sessions and records management techniques, including operation of specialized student information system software applications;
3. Demonstrated ability to effectively work with persons of diverse socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds.
- Bachelor’s Degree preferred

- Administer tests related to class placement, career counseling, reading proficiency and financial aid; administer and proctor tests for off-campus organizations as appropriate.
- Plan, develop, and implement computerized testing system. Work with I.S. staff and faculty to ensure that computerized test meets departmental specification for multiple measures and placement, and that the system works properly with the current Data System. Continuously make changes and updates to the testing system as needed.
- Disseminate and interpret various test results and refer students to faculty or academic counselors as appropriate. Provide technology support to counselors and instructors.
- Apply and explain the application process, procedures and eligibility requirements for assigned programs. Receive, record, verify, validate and document student applications and support documentation for assigned program.
- Manage the online system of clearing pre-requisites. Provide direct communications with department chairs or appropriate faculty regarding prerequisites and assessment. Provide recommendations to students based on documentation provided by the student. Enter prerequisite data into the student record.
- Supervise testing site, maintain security and test integrity, and ensure compliance with ethical standards and test protocols; train and provide work direction to work study students and hourly employees; schedule, assign and review work.
- Provide ongoing assessment, course placement and prerequisite training to other staff and counselors and other appropriate faculty.
- Order, inventory and maintain the security of testing materials; communicate with test publishers and faculty regarding questions, problems and orders.
- Assist in scheduling and publicizing test dates; reserve test sites; schedule proctors and ensure that adequate supplies of test materials are available; manage online information for all assessments; make ongoing improvements to the assessment webpage; create ongoing online tutorials for students on how to read their placement scores.
- Serve as source of information and assistance to persons contacting the college in person and on the telephone; provide information about college schedules, matriculation, graduation requirements, course offerings, transcript requests, financial aid, veterans, or other college programs and services; refer students to other Student Services areas as appropriate.
- Maintain the accuracy of information in the Schedule of Classes and College regarding pre-requisites, assessment and pre-req. clearance. Make regular changes and updates to class schedule and college catalog.
- Maintain the accuracy of assessment data for MIS reporting. Meet regularly with IS staff to ensure that accuracy of data; conduct periodic research and analysis of data. Clean error reports regularly prior to submittal of MIS report.
- Compile, record and retrieve data; assist in preparing federal, state and institutional reports according to established program requirements and policies; maintain various records, files, logs and lists; process, distribute and file paperwork as required.
- Maintain SARS scheduler for Assessment and Counseling.
- Provide Ongoing technical support of online computerized placement; work closely with department chairs to ensure that appropriate placements are being utilized; continuously research system improvements and implement changes as necessary.
- Provide information and assistance to students regarding testing schedules, procedures, requirements and results; review and evaluate transcripts from other colleges in relationship to prerequisite checking.
- Meet regularly with IS staff to ensure that appropriate records and data are meet state requirements. Participate in state assessment meetings/training or regional K-16 Bridge Program meetings/training.
- Communicate with college and District faculty and staff regarding admissions and records, academic and career counseling, financial aid and others as needed. Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
