This position is responsible for testing, implementing, administering, managing, and supporting enterprise/service provider level networking and security systems. Responsibilities include analyzing networking/security requirements, specifying networking/security equipment, monitoring, troubleshooting, and resolving networking/security problems, monitoring and enforcing University network standards and policies. This position also provides consulting support on the design and implementation of networking & security solutions and technologies to University colleges and departments.
A Bachelor’s degree and three (3) years related professional experience or a combination of education and experience totaling seven (7) years from which comparable knowledge and abilities were acquired.
Experience with some or all of the following technologies: controller based WiFi, Cisco IOS, Juniper OS, SNMP network monitoring tools, FTTH, GPON, and copper/fiber infrastructure.
Experience with programming languages such as Perl or Python.
Experience troubleshooting fiber and/or copper.
Demonstrated experience with current computer technology and applications (e.g. word processing, spreadsheet, and collaboration applications).
Demonstrated ability to utilize analytical and communication skills in the development and modification of written procedures, processes, and technical support knowledge base, resulting in content tailored to the level and type of audience for support and issue resolution.
Demonstrated knowledge with IT network routing and switching technologies, architectures, principles, implementations, and support of IP layer 3 networks.
Demonstrated knowledge of layer 3 IP networks, VLANs, OSPF, MPLS and BGP.
Working knowledge and understanding of the TCP/IP protocol suite and implementations.
Knowledge and/or experience working with network management protocols and systems.
Knowledge of current Windows and Mac operating systems.
Knowledge of network security technologies, best practices and issues related to network switching, routing, and transport.
The ability to isolate and troubleshoot networking and security issues, and applying networking and/or security tools and techniques within a multi-vendor network infrastructure and to rapidly identify and resolve issues.
Ability to prioritize work assignments and work on difficult tasks with minimal supervision.
Hold industry standard network certification(s).
