Position assists with the planning, development, implementation and delivery of programs and services for TRIO Upward Bound participants.

Please note that this is a grant funded position. The current grant will end on 08/31/2017. At that time a new grant will be written and submitted to the Department of Education.

Duties/Responsibilities

35% Assists in the development, promotion, and implementation of service learning projects; coordination of community engagement efforts; and the coordination of all the educational, social, and cultural mandated activities for program participants during the summer and academic year components. Conduct preliminary research to determine learning outcomes that ensure scheduled activities align with Program mission.

• Assist in the planning and coordination of college tours, both in-state and out of state for UB participants, as well as other trips or retreats to ensure student retention and graduation with post-secondary education.

*Assist in the planning and implementation of workshops and seminars, as well as other support services relevant to achieving grant objectives that will promote student retention, high school completion and college success.

25% Assist in serving as a liaison between Upward Bound and community organizations, assisting in the promotion of the Upward Bound Program with target schools and community organizations, including designing brochures and other marketing tools for recruitment and in building collaborations.

*Ability to work with other organizations in the community to provide shared resources to students.

25% Assist in the tracking and documentation in support of Federal and state regulations and requirements.

10% Assist in the facilitation for raising funds and researching resources for funding, other than a total reliance on Federal grants in an effort to engage participants in activities.

5% Other duties as assigned by the Program Director.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Education, Sociology, Psychology, Public affairs and or Business, or the equivalent combination of education and experience is required.

Minimum of 2 years of experience in event planning for large groups, experience managing a budget and making purchases in compliance with fiscal rules, experience collaborating with diverse community groups or organizations.

Experience working with students in a secondary school environment that are ethnic minority and economically disadvantaged youth.

Demonstrated experience utilizing campus and community resources to encourage participation in events and opportunities.

Record keeping and organizational skills and ability to compile and analyze statistics necessary. Strong written, verbal and non-verbal communication skills are required.

Experience with record keeping.

Experience using organizational skills.

Error free written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience working with urban youth in a TRIO or similar pre-collegiate educational outreach program with knowledge of up-to-date local, state and federal educational standards.

Knowledge of community resources and on-campus resources.

Demonstrated networking with public relations agencies and organizations to facilitate financial support beyond the Federal grant funds.

Experience creating collaborative relationships to support student success with higher education programs or departments.

Ability to research and maintain community resources in order to build program collaborations.

Experience using statistics and conducting statistical analysis.

Experience working in the confines of a Federally grant funded program.

Effective written and verbal communication skills.
