Detailed Job Description

The College Success Specialist position is responsible for leading others and performing senior level duties in coordinating, developing, and implementing retention efforts for the GEAR UP class of 2017-2018 while in their first year of college.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to providing college-going information for students/parents, identifying college resources for student support, implement mentoring program, advising and training GEAR UP staff on retention efforts,monitoring and evaluating student services and operational effectiveness, developing relationships with targeted colleges and developing communication plan between students, mentors and college resources.

Required Qualifications

Positions require a Bachelor’s degree and three (3) years of professional work experience in student services or related education/experience. Experience leading or directing the work of others. A Master’s degree in a related field may substitute for one (1) year of professional work experience. Any combination of relevant education and professional experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year‐for‐year basis.

Preferred Qualifications

-Three (3) years of applicable student services experience in college admissions, financial aid,advising and/or recruitment.

-Experience with programs related to student retention and/or student success.

-Demonstrated experience developing strong,collaborative relationship with colleagues, students, parents and external constituencies.

-Experience developing and managing a project/program.

-Developed skills in written and verbal communication including experience with large group presentations/trainings.

-Experience working with diverse populations.

-Demonstrated strong communication, team building, problem-solving and conflict management skills.
