Detailed Job Description

Coaches monitor student engagement, grade assignments, facilitate course discussions, provide online student support, and regularly collaborate with university faculty. Academic Coaches serve as facilitators and graders; University faculty is the teacher of record. Compensation is based on a “per student per course" formula. About 85 percent the courses are 5-week course cycles and the programs are year round. Courses are designed so that the student-content interaction is the same, regardless of number of weeks. Additional per student stipends may apply to specific courses and/or programs. Academic Coaching positions are considered part-time work (as an independent contractor).

Academic Coaches are highly organized, independent workers and problem solvers capable from home with a flexible schedule. Familiarity with online teaching platform is preferred. Strong technical skills and basic computer proficiency is required.

If selected as an applicant, you will be required to complete an Online Academic Coach Training. Participants can expect to commit 4 to 6 hours to training, typically accomplished within one week – which is self-paced. The online training includes introduction to the learning management system (LMS), review of the principles of online education, and a detailed list of the roles and expectation of an Academic Coach. If a participant does not complete this training in the allotted time, he or she may be re-scheduled. The training is offered 2-3 times per month and always starts on a Monday.

Upon successful competition of the training (active participation and working through all five modules), you can advance to the contracting phase. The contract is dependent on the success of a background check and training. Once your contractor package is complete, your name will added to our pool of screened and qualified Academic Coaches ready for an assignment. Universities make the final decisions on which candidates are approved and selected for their programs and courses.

Coaches are assigned to courses, and the courses are offered in a carousel format - in which the same course is not offered each course cycle. The courses are divided into sections of approximately 25 to 30 students. You can be assigned to multiple sections within a course.

Coaching assignments are made in consultation with Coordinating Coaches or Lead Coaches, who may guide the candidate in an orientation to the assigned program and course. Actual course assignments are made near to the course start date and are dependent on many factors including: area and level of graduate study, university approval, and student enrollments.
