Detailed Job Description

Under the direction of the Head Cross Country and Track & Field Coach, the Assistant Cross Country and Track & Field Coach will assist with practice and game strategies along with recruitment activities and player development.

  • Demonstrates competence and knowledge of sport. Exhibits solid organization, flexibility and plans creative and valuable practices.
    Keeps informed of modern trends, techniques and strategies. Supervises, coordinates, and evaluates practice sessions and related activities with proper attention to players and their physical well-being.

  • Works collaboratively with the Office of Admissions and Financial Aid to effectively recruit new student-athletes that have the ability to achieve success academically and athletically. Abides by all recruiting rules and regulations set forth by the NCAA.

  • Create and maintain an effective environment for academic success. In coordination with the Academic Resource Center, monitor academic progress throughout the year to insure academic success, retention and graduation.

  • Emphasize values of competitive athletics, acceptable personal behavior, decision-making and lasting values to each individual. Always serves as an exemplary professional. Treats student-athletes professionally, respectfully, and courteously.

  • Plans and utilizes operating, financial aid and salary budget according to department procedures and NCAA regulations. Monitors budget and expenses and ensures timely turnaround of team credit cards and expense reimbursements. Keeps program within expense budget parameters.

  • Adheres to NE-10/Atlantic Hockey/Rugby and NCAA rules. Attends all internal compliance meetings, adheres to departmental policies, and completes paperwork and reports on time. Successfully passes the NCAA rules exams.

  • Communicates skillfully with colleagues, subordinates and student-athletes. Maintains self-control and sets an example for sportsmanlike conduct in his/her relationship with team, officials, administration and opponents in victory or defeat. Provides clear direction of responsibility and authority. Attends and contributes to department meetings and functions.

  • Provides athletic training room with accurate practice and competition schedules, in advance, so they can prepare accordingly. Starts and concludes practices at scheduled times. Adheres to athletic training room policy of 24-hour notice regarding the changing of practice times.

  • Successfully implements a fundraising plan that achieves annual fundraising goals set by administration. Works with Athletic Director/Department to support all fund-raising efforts.

  • Actively supports student-athlete participation in Community outreach programs. Develops and maintains positive relationship with interested segment of the community.

  • Maintain sport specific roster goals as determined by the Director of Athletics.

  • Works with the equipment room staff to assist in the collection, purchasing and accounting of all equipment.

  • Perform additional responsibilities (as assigned by the Director of Athletics) in a thorough, professional manner.

  • Bachelor's degree is required.

  • Master's degree is preferred.

  • Knowledge of NCAA regulations and ability to pass NCAA recruiting test within 90 days is required.

  • Strong jumps or multi event competition / coaching background with the ability to provide high level instruction.

  • Must have a strong commitment to the academic success of the student-athlete.

  • Exceptional leadership and strong organizational and communication skills.

  • Ability to work evening, weekends, and holidays as the schedule dictates is required.

  • Valid, insurable driver’s license is required, with ability to travel.

  • Ability to represent the philosophy and educational goals of American International College.
