Detailed Job Description

The Associate Director of Gift Accounting serves in a leadership role within the Office of University Advancement Services, reporting to the Associate Vice President of Advancement Services. The Associate Director of Gift Accounting leads all activities of the Gift Accounting Department and oversees the University's accounting of private gifts. The position is responsible for formulating and implementing policies and procedures for the successful recording, receipting, documenting, and reporting of private gifts to the University and its schools, colleges and related foundations; overseeing gift accounting quality and managing customer service interactions with University staff and donors related to the University's charitable contributions; and managing and advising on the reporting of charitable gift activity to internal and external sources. The position supervises and leads the Gift Accounting staff.

Required Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and a minimum of three (3) years of accounting experience in an academic, business or philanthropic setting or other relevant experience; or a Master's degree and one (1) year of accounting experience in an academic, business or philanthropic setting or other relevant experience.

Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications:

Experience in training and educating staff, developing goals and objectives and a thorough knowledge of and an ability to apply standard accounting policies and procedures. Comprehensive knowledge of IRS rules and regulations pertaining to charitable giving. Sound knowledge of and an ability to use database and spreadsheet applications.

Skills and Knowledge:

Excellent oral and written communication skills. Strong organizational skills. Ability to work both independently and as a team member and to work closely with other areas on campus. Detail oriented with the ability to multi-task. Ability to exercise initiative, independent judgment, and make quick decisions.

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Business, Accounting, Management or other related field preferred. Two years supervisory experience. CPA preferred. Based on Qualifications
