Detailed Job Description

This position will work closely with other Network Services team and Information Services management to provide infrastructure support for the college's enterprise tape backup system, servers, hardware, server operating systems, disk/storage technologies, systems administration, and application implementation in a mid-sized computing environment. Responsibilities will range from daily maintenance tasks, monitoring, problem solving, and basic server installations to development and implementation of custom systems platforms. This position will interface with other IS professionals to implement platforms that will function in a complex environment, integrating with technologies such as network security/firewall systems, DHCP, monitoring systems, storage area networks, directory services, authentication systems, and other centralized infrastructure services.


Design, implement, monitor and maintain the successful day to day operation of an enterprise-wide backup system.

Assist in the daily management of a mid-sized (250+ servers) computing environment: Windows, VMWare, Exchange, Citrix, SharePoint and HP Storage Area Network devices (SAN).

Develop written procedures for the college's server and information system environment.

Document and maintain the design and configuration of server infrastructure and systems.

Provide support and guidance to Network Administrators and Desktop Support Specialists to ensure all devices on the network adhere to strict network engineering and security specifications.

Advise and/or implement network and security processes and procedures in new IT infrastructure.

Maintain a working knowledge of all applicable policies and procedures.

Implement server hardware and software upgrades in a Citrix/Windows/Exchange environment.

Provide technical assistance, support, and advice to customers and internal users.

Coordinate with IS management and staff to ensure effective communications with regard to projects and system upgrades.  

Required Qualifications

Bachelors in computer science or related field required

Industry standard certification(s) covering one or more of the following technologies preferred: Exchange, SQL, Active Directory, Citrix, Blade servers/systems, virtualization, enterprise level tape backup systems

Minimum three years' experience, integrating, troubleshooting and administering networking solutions with MS Exchange, Active Directory, SharePoint and Citrix

Demonstrated knowledge and experience with enterprise-wide tape backup systems required (Backup/Recovery design, implementation, operations, optimization and disaster recovery; Private cloud and tape storage; System Development Life Cycle Processes and Procedures).

Configuring and supporting Microsoft Windows OS technology including Active Directory, Domains, Trusts, LDAP Directories, DHCP, DNS/DDNS, WINS, Group Policy, DFS, MSCS, TCPIP, and Registry keys and Security policies.

Demonstrated ability to monitor, test and troubleshoot server hardware and software problems.

Experience in mobility support (MS ActiveSync).

Experience with high capacity storage area networks, fiber channel networks and switches and storage management software.

Working knowledge of TCP/IP networking with a solid understanding of LAN/WAN technologies and software tools for performance monitoring and troubleshooting.

Experience with change management procedures to effectively communicate changes, test thoroughly and anticipate and minimize side effects of hardware and software changes.

Excellent written and oral communication skills along with collaborative team skills are required.
