Responsibilities:

- Develop specific instructional modules in the areas of law, program evaluation, instructional leadership, educational technology, school safety and educational finance and to organize such sessions on a quarterly basis

- Identify the training sites, secure and reserve meeting rooms, and arrange for participant lodging for each scheduled session

- Work with all budgetary matters related to the operation of the Academy, including the development and monitoring of an annual budget, the development of contracts with session presenters and other vendors, the purchase of materials and equipment necessary for conducting Academy session, and the processing of all payments for goods and services

- Maintain a fully updated website for the Academy, to create a listserv of all superintendents in the state of Alabama, and to maintain files on all participants for the purpose of logging their progress

- Update the materials used for the training programs in the areas of law, finance and curriculum

- Maintain contact with media sources, to disseminate all recruitment brochures, maintain effective communication with the Alabama State Department of Education, the Dean of the College of Education, the College of Education Office of Research and Service, and ELPTS faculty members

- Design and implement procedures used for the selection of all program participants

- Cooperate with faculty to design the structure of the program experience for the Academy participants and to secure assurances from the Alabama State Department of Education (ADE) that the process meets ADE expectations

- Collaborate with ELPTS to conduct an evaluation of all instructional sessions and to prepare reports regarding their range of effectiveness

- Teach one class per semester in the College of Education and carry out any assignments directed by the Dean and/or the Chair of ELPTS

- If needed, teach one class during the summer semester for an additional stipend as determined by UA’s summer pay guidelines

- Oversee Graduate Assistant participation in various projects in cooperation with the Chair and faculty of ELPTS

Position: Clinical Assistant Professor and Director of the University of Alabama Superintendent’s Academy (non-tenure track)

The College of Education at the University of Alabama seeks a Director for the University of Alabama Superintendent’s Academy. The Academy is housed in the department of Educational Leadership, Policy and Technological Studies (ELPTS) and carries an appointment of Clinical Assistant Professor. The University of Alabama Superintendent’s Academy is a professional development program conducted out of the College of Education at the University of Alabama in cooperation with the Alabama State Board of Education.

This position is for a nine month academic year, non-tenure earning clinical assistant professor. This position will be renewed annually based on performance and funding.

Minimum Qualifications:

- Earned doctorate in Educational Administration, Educational Leadership or a related field

- Two or more years of experience working as an educational administrator in the K-12 setting

Preferred Qualifications:

- Background in Alabama school law and school finance
