Under administrative direction, directs, plans, guides, and evaluates the non-clinical activities of the neurology and psychiatry departments; directs business operations of neurology and psychiatry ambulatory service sites; oversees the departments including departmental budget and expenditures; directs and empowers administrative staff to develop cost effective, quality patient care services and work processes; supervises department administrative and clinical staff; assists and reports to department chairs.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree, master’s preferred; supplemented with five (5) years of related experience.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

Directs neurology and psychiatry fiscal activities; oversees the departmental clinical and academic research budgets; reviews and monitors budget actuals, projections, and statistical data; recommends revisions in operations and policies; analyzes, interprets, and forecasts financial, clinical, and other complex statistical data.

Directs, leads, and models the implementation of management strategies, work processes, interventions, measurements, and tools; collaborates with managers and helps to identify issues of health care delivery and makes recommendations for changes, provides fiscal and operational data to support decision making

Evaluates staff performance; provides direction and assistance to departmental administrative and clinical staff.

Maintains appropriate relationships and coordinates operations with SLUCare service departments and administration, University Hospital administration, finance, information services, human resources, payroll, purchasing, the physical plant, and external contractors and vendors; fosters a positive work environment to maintain high staff morale.

Maintains and supports appropriate relationships with departmental faculty and residents; provides support to professional clinical staff; performs other duties as assigned.
