The Executive Director, Career Center is responsible for providing vision and leadership for The University of Alabama Career Center.

Additional Department Summary:

The Executive Director, Career Center is responsible for providing leadership to staff in developing critical analysis and solutions to the broad spectrum of career development/education and employer relations/development. To be a successful leader, the Executive Director is responsible for ensuring that appropriate staff are hired and are adequately trained, specifically in career education, employer relations, and employer development. The Executive Director will lead staff to identify and integrate best practices and benchmark services from peer institutions along with utilizing creativity, staff enrichment, and current technology to support continued improvement in service to student/alumni clients and employer customers. The Executive Director will strive for the staff to keep one theme of collaboration, cooperation, and communication enhancing the development nature of individual career needs, relationship building with employers, and administrative responsibilities to problem solve to effect better results for clients and customers.The Executive Director and appropriate staff will collaborate with college deans, other university administrators, faculty, and staff to provide strategies to improve career services for students in all majors and to link these students to opportunities for employment. This will include comprehensive career development and employer relations/development for prospective and current students and alumni. In addition, the Executive Director will promote among staff respectful and inclusive participation by diverse populations and organizations to achieve individual and organizational career success.The Executive Director and appropriate staff will collaborate with the undergraduate and graduate admissions offices, in order to assist students as they chose to attend UA and with related offices in an effort to maximize retention of students along with working with recruiting challenges, tasks, projects, problems, and relationships that demand strong communication skills, and creative solution building capabilities.The Executive Director is the external face for UA career services and will lead employer development and communication efforts.

Required Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and ten (10) years of experience; OR Master's degree and eight (8) years of experience, with increasing leadership responsibilities in career development, employer relations or other relevant experience.

Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications:

Valid U.S. driver's license. Must be at least 21 years of age and have an acceptable motor vehicle record as determined by the insurance carrier.

Executive level communication skills (listening, verbal, written); interpersonal abilities; leadership/management skills; multicultural sensitivity/awareness; planning/organizing; problem solving, reasoning, and creativity; team/relationship building; flexibility, adaptability, strategic thinking and execution; managing multiple priorities; integrity; strong work ethic and values.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master's degree in student personnel, management, education, business, counseling, human resources or other relevant field. Extensive knowledge and experience with business and industry employment issues are also highly desirable.
