Detailed Job Description

The Transition and Retention Specialist is primarily responsible for working with non-traditional college students to transition them into the variety of programming offered in Continuing Education and Workforce Development (CEWD) including GED, English as a Second Language, and career-focused training. In addition, the Transition and Retention Specialist will conduct orientations and provide instruction in topics such as student success, interviewing skills, resume writing, and/or adult basic skills topics.  

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Education or related field. Minimum of five years in working with at-risk populations in a case management and/or instructional role.

Minimum of three years of teaching experience in adult basic education, student success and/or career topics such as resume writing and interviewing skills.

Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse, multi-cultural populations and ability to work effectively and tactfully with students, instructors, staff, community representatives, government agencies and the public.

Strong computer skills, including knowledge of MS Office.  

Preferred Qualifications

Experience providing instruction contextualized instruction (i.e. I-BEST model), preferred.

Familiarity with regional community based organizations, preferred.
