Detailed Job Description

Under the direction of the Director of Financial Aid Operations, the Manager of Communications manages the office’s comprehensive communications plan including the scheduling, planning, organizing and crafting of outbound communications, print and web publications. This position also manages the maintenance of inbound documents and information including federal and institutional aid applications and supporting materials. Responsible for the management of CORE files and subsequent ISIR review. Responsible for managing all aspects of the College’s Financial Literacy Program (SALT). Collaborates with members of the SFS Management Team including the AVP, the Director of Scholarship Operations and the Director of Student Employment to improve our communications to students and families. The Manager of Communications is a member of the SFS Management Team as well as the Enrollment Leadership Group and must be able to form relationships with colleagues in our partner offices in the Enrollment Division.  

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manages the Office of Student Financial Services outbound communications.
  • Manages the Office of Student Financial Services internal and external websites and multi-media content.
  • Manages the Office of Student Financial Services internal and external publications.
  • Works with SFS Management to review forms, letters, and office communications to identify areas for improvement and makes recommendations as appropriate.
  • Management of FAFSA & CSS Profile application imports into Powerfaids database Keeps up-to-date of federal, state and university rules and regulations to make sure that appropriate procedures are in place to ensure compliance.
  • Management of CORE files and subsequent ISIR review.
  • Coordinate, market and manage financial aid literacy program.
  • Reviews, researches and resolves office procedures and makes recommendations for changes as appropriate by collaborating with the SFS Management Team.
  • Contribute to strategic planning initiatives for long and short-term department goals.
  • Participates in Open House and Admission Office yield events.

Other Information or Comments:

Expected to be professional, knowledgeable, flexible and able to operate independently as well as within a team environment. Expected to be able to work under a variety of calendars (state, federal and institutional) and multiple fiscal years and set own priorities with limited supervision of day-to-day duties. Participates in MASFAA, NASFAA and College Board.

Required Skills

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent project management skills.
  • Strong technical skills. Understanding of multiple computer systems and their appropriate utilization in administering student financial aid programs. Experience with PowerFAIDS is essential. Knowledge of ISIR comment codes and database match flags.
  • Excellent organizational and analytical skills, including the ability to work well with numbers, with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to analyze data and troubleshoot corrections to processing.
  • Strong web content management/HTML skills.
  • Ability to relate to students, families and staff with diverse backgrounds and to work cooperatively as a member of the Student Financial Services team.

Required Experience

  • Bachelors degree and at least five years experience in student financial aid required.
  • Knowledge of federal and state financial aid programs, related regulations, and need analysis systems.
  • Knowledge of verification processing required.
