Under the administrative direction of the Dean of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences, the Chair of the Department of Languages, and the Spanish Department Coordinator, the individual will perform some or all of the following duties: instructs, manages, and supervises individuals and groups in classroom and laboratories through lectures, discussions, conferences, demonstrations, field trips, individualized instruction and tutoring, internships and other appropriate media; may supervise or assist in supervising labs, programs, committees, etc. as assigned; maintains professional currency in courses taught including but not limited to certification, professional status, travel, teaching methodologies, multimedia, computer-assisted instruction, research, etc.; works with grants, supervising, writing, executing, etc.
Graduation from a regionally accredited institution with an appropriate degree in a related field to the coursework being taught. Knowledge and skill in current instructional theories, strategies, techniques, and discipline content. See preferred qualifications for discipline or program-specific minimum qualifications.
Graduation from an accredited institution with a M.A. with a minimum of four years teaching experience at the college/university level (or equivalent), which includes both face-to-face and on-line instruction is required.
Extensive knowledge of subject matter and course content of the courses to be taught, which may include courses emphasizing both theory and practice; instructional strategies and techniques.
Knowledge of student management, motivation, and evaluation.
Knowledge of evaluation of (peer and self) instruction.
Knowledge of program and curriculum development and evaluation.
Knowledge of effective human relations and communication techniques.
Knowledge of and expertise in current trends in education, engaged learning and service learning, learning technologies (e.g. digital technologies for classroom management and distance education), public presenting and report and grant writing.
We are seeking applicants who have expertise and experience in teaching Spanish. The applicant must be able to teach skill- and theory-based courses in all levels.
The appointee must have native or native-like fluency in Spanish, be fluent in English, and prepared in basic language teaching pedagogy. The successful candidate must also be prepared to coordinate the courses and ancillary programs associated with UVU’s Spanish emphasis in Education B.A. Intimate and extensive Hispanic-cultural experience is required.
Ability to apply general principles to specific conditions, follow written and oral procedures and instructions.
