The Director for Fan, Campus & Community Engagement is an integral part of the Miami University Athletic Department and is responsible for the development and execution of all activities intended to increase and stimulate fan, campus and community engagement for the Miami Athletic Department.  In conjunction with the Chief Operations Officer, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following: the strategic direction, oversight, coordination, leadership and active participation in the revenue generating and external functions of the Department. This is a managerial position that oversees staff and is responsible for their development and supervision. This position works in a creative and collaborative team environment where change is embraced and innovation is encouraged.

This position specifically supports the mission of the University and the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics by assisting in institutional compliance with NCAA and Conference rules and regulations.


Responsible for developing communication and promotional concepts, planning and strategies that significantly increase exposure of Miami University Athletics while simultaneously increasing ticket sales, attendance at athletic events, fund raising contributions, corporate sponsorships and overall campus awareness.  

Works closely with external staff to develop fan engagement, promotions, fund-raising and commercial materials as requested.  

Work collaboratively with the other members of the external team to accomplish goals, engage the university, fan and alumni community and supervise the idea generation of video concepts that enhance the in-game experience.

Oversee and coordinate the layout, printing and distribution of all external promotional collateral.

FAN ENGAGEMENT:  Will be responsible for the creation and implementation of promotional fan events intended to increase fan engagement. This includes event coordination and logistics, managing vendor relationships, event implementation and developing promotional plans to increase event awareness.

Must develop a proactive approach to identify& create opportunities and put to action content/projects/stories that will positively influence and generate increased involvement in Miami University Athletics.

Develop specific strategies to promote attendance at home events

Work with Aspire and the Director of Ticket Operations and Fulfillment to develop specific tactics to promote attendance at home events.

COMMUNITY & CAMPUS ENGAGEMENT:  Handle all requests for donations, autographs, auctions and appearances with the Assistant AD for Equipment Services and Special Projects.

Coordinate and implement strategies to increase the positive visibility of the Miami University athletics program with students, fans and the general public.  Strategies should include a diverse range of mutually beneficial community service events and opportunities throughout the community for our student-athletes and coaches.

STAFF:  Oversee the development and growth of staff and interns

This position will direct and supervise staff to plan, create, and execute promotional activities, general in-game environment and foster increased fan interaction resulting in an enhanced in-game experience.

Further enhance and cultivate relationships on-campus; resulting in student, faculty and staff support for the athletic department.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree

Minimum three-five years’ experience at an NCAA Division I institution or conference or in professional sports, with preferred responsibilities for leading an external unit(s) with revenue generating expectations (e.g. marketing, ticketing, communication, creative, broadcasting, in-game presentation, etc.) and/or experience at an executive level that demonstrates the potential for successful leadership of external affairs in a collegiate environment.

Ability to effectively and creatively manage complex issues and relationships; hire, supervise, lead and motivate staff, and develop, analyze and meet revenue targets.

Must show strong interpersonal skills, initiative, self-motivation and excellent written and oral communication skills.

Must be willing to lead while also contributing in a hands-on manner as necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

Master's or terminal degree

Knowledge and experience in managing and maintenance of Daktronics equipment
