The assistant professor will establish independent research, write proposals for internal and external funding, and develop a productive research program leading to refereed (i.e., peer-reviewed) scholarship. The assistant professor will also teach undergraduate and graduate courses in AMDT and collaborate with colleagues to create course curriculum that brings together understanding of omni-channel commerce in the textile and apparel industry with an emphasis on electronic and mobile methods. Other responsibilities include directing graduate student research, mentoring of student activities and organizations, and serving the university, college, department and professional organizations. As part of a closely- knit teaching team of six tenure-track faculty and three instructors, the applicant will provide quality research, teaching, mentoring, and support to produce “job-ready on day one” students in the apparel and textile industry.
Earned Ph.D. in Apparel, Merchandising, Design and Textiles with an emphasis on Consumer Behavior at the time of offer.
Demonstrated ability to teach in one or more of the following areas: electronic and mobile commerce, fashion forecasting, retail buying, consumer behavior, and retail operations/management.
Evidence of scholarly activity and research output.
Demonstrated evidence of proficiency in quantitative data analysis methods (i.e. structural equation modeling).
Demonstrated understanding of industry or professional practice.
Demonstrated ability to establish effective working relationships and contribute to team endeavors.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in oral and written formats.
Record of active participation in academic and/or professional organizations.

The Department of Apparel, Merchandising, Design and Textiles (AMDT) at Washington State University has a passion for textiles and apparel. We are looking for a skilled and experienced individual who shares that passion and wants to be part of a growing program at one of the leading universities in the U.S. We have an opening for a tenure-track, assistant professor to join our teaching and research team on a 9-month appointment. This position will enhance the department’s position in the area of textile and apparel merchandising with an emphasis on electronic and mobile commerce.

Members include representatives from Nike, Nordstrom, Speedo, Eddie Bauer, Kenneth Cole, Cotton Incorporated, Konjo Ababa, and The Economic Development Council of Seattle and King County.

■ The Department of Apparel, Merchandising, Design and Textiles (AMDT) at WSU is the only state-supported four-year university offering a full apparel design program and an in-depth merchandising program in Washington State.
■ AMDT is part of the College of Agricultural, Human, and Natural Resource Sciences and supports more than 270 undergraduate students.
■ Students select either Apparel Design or Merchandising as degree options. The program offers a B.A., M.A., and opportunities to participant in an interdisciplinary Ph.D. program.
