Detailed Job Description

The Programmer/Analyst is responsible for defining and analyzing business systems related issues, and for solving, designing, and implementing solutions that address those issues. In addition, the Programmer/Analyst supports the college's integrated ERP Financials, Human Resources, and Student Information System (Ellucian Colleague) including developing, testing, debugging, implementing and supporting moderately complex computer programs using software development tools; applying vendor delivered maintenance; assisting customers in understanding system functionality; participating in group meetings with customers and technical staff; and preparing customer and technical documentation.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Support the integrated ERP (Colleague System) Student, Financial, and Human Resources system: This includes applying maintenance; assisting end-users in understanding system functionality; participating in group meetings with users and technical staff; developing, testing and debugging programs; and preparing documentation.

Apply best practices and provide insight to the college's business processes.

Develop computer programs for moderately complex, to complex, customer issues using software development tools.

Work with the appropriate college staff to define manual processes to effectively support business needs.

Combine manual and automated procedures into computer systems. This includes report development using third party software.

Advise the Team Leader of business problems; formulating logical statements of these problems; devising and recommending alternative procedures to solve the problems.

Maintain state-of-the-art proficiency through college supplied training or education, industry seminars and independent effort.

Participate in project planning sessions for the purpose of analyzing and development requirements.

Other duties assigned by the Director of Application Services or the Application Development & Support Team Leader.

**This position is located in Arnold, Maryland and requires onsite work.  

Required Qualifications

Associate's degree required. A degree in Management Information Systems or related field preferred. Bachelor's degree is preferred.

A minimum of three years of experience in full project lifecycle including all stages of design, development and implementation of custom applications as well as the deployment of packaged solutions.

A minimum of three years of experience in systems analysis and design of computer systems, including three years analytical experience and three years large system/business experience.

A minimum of three years of experience using programming skills in high-level computer languages such as Pick Basic, UniBasic, Universe, Envision Basic, COBOL, C#, Visual Basic, etc.

Task oriented, able to work on multiple assignments concurrently.

Technical skills in relational databases (UNIDATA preferred).

Strong analytical, coding, testing, documentation, interpersonal and leadership skills including excellent oral and written communication skills.

Strong customer service skills with the ability to deal tactfully and effectively with students, faculty, staff, vendors and the public.

Good team player who can also work independently.  

Preferred Qualifications

A minimum of two years of experience in ERP Student, Financials, Human Resources, and Payroll is highly preferred.

Programming skills in UniBasic, Envision Tool Kit, and Colleague Studio is highly preferred.

Experience installing, implementing, maintaining, and supporting vendor developed administrative systems a plus.

Project Management skills, with experience in defining and development of project scope for various projects, is a plus.

Knowledge of Ellucian Colleague products from both a technical and user support perspective is a plus.
Experience using third party software for report writing is a plus.

Technical skills in UNIX is a plus.

Experience in Higher Education a plus.
