Detailed Job Description

The Cataloging Manager at the Andrew G. Truxal Library is responsible for original and copy cataloging of works in a variety of media according to current cataloging standards; enhancing and maintaining the quality and integrity of the online catalog; managing the workflow of the Catalog Department, and managing cataloging related projects  

Required Qualifications

Master of Library Science from an ALA-accredited program is required

Minimum of two years of full time cataloging experience, including original cataloging, with an integrated library system is required.

Experience in cataloging print materials and at least one other format such as video, electronic resources, archival materials, or other media.

Demonstrated advanced knowledge of OCLC Connexion, AACR2, ISBD, Library of Congress Subject Headings, Library of Congress Classification System, and authority control.

Working knowledge of bibliographic and research databases.

Familiarity with RDA, FRBR, Dublin Core, and current and emerging metadata standards and trends.

Ability to perform cataloging tasks with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.

Ability to deal effectively and tactfully with faculty, staff, students and the public.

Demonstrated concern for the patron's ability to successfully find, identify, select, and obtain information resources in the library's catalog.

Ability to work successfully in a team environment.

Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Excellent interpersonal skills.

Willingness to learn and adapt to changing standards and new technology.

Flexible and self-directed.

Ability to perform data entry accurately at a moderate speed.

Experience with word processing and spreadsheet software  

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with MARC record batch processing, including the use of metadata manipulation tools such as MarcEdit.

Experience with ContentDM, SirsiDynix, ClassWeb, and RDA Toolkit.

Experience in working with archival materials.

Experience in an academic or large public library.

Evidence of previous professional development activities.

Project management skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks under deadlines.

Knowledge of relational databases.
