Position: Assistant Professor (tenure-track) of Musical Theater/Dance, Department of Theater, SIU Carbondale.
Required Qualifications: MFA in Musical Theater or Dance; demonstrated skill in choreographing musicals; experience in teaching foundational skills in tap, ballet, jazz, and social dance; a comprehensive knowledge of musical theater styles, history and repertory; significant professional achievement in musical theater/dance.
Preferred Qualifications: Professional experience as a musical theater choreographer and/or dance captain; experience in teaching in a BFA or BA program or professional studio; ability to teach in other areas related to musical theater performance.
Duties: Maintain an active agenda of research and/or creative activity; teach courses in Intermediate Musical Theater Dance, Advanced Musical Dance, and Musical Theater Workshop; choreograph or assist choreographers on seasonal musicals; depending on qualifications, teach Movement for Actors, Audition Techniques, and directing seasonal musicals; mentor and supervise graduate and undergraduate students; serve on thesis committees; perform appropriate service to department and University.
The Department: The Department of Theater, a division of the College of Liberal Arts, offers a B.A. Degree, a B.F.A Degree in Musical Theatre jointly taught with the School of Music, and M.F.A. Degree in theater with specializations in the areas of Directing, Playwriting, Design, and Production. Doctoral studies in theater are sponsored through the Department of Communication Studies. The Department of Theater has an active production program in cooperation with the School of Music, and a staff of nine faculty and two professional staff. Student enrollment approximates 100. SIU Carbondale is classified by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching as RU/H: Research Universities (high research activity). SW Carbondale is a public institution with an enrollment of approximately 18,000 students.
