The Stan Getz Music Library’s mission is to equip Berklee students to be self-sufficient, life-long learners with the information skills needed to forge successful musical careers in today’s knowledge-driven, global society. We seek an energetic, creative new team member to provide leadership in the utilization of Library content resources and information services in Berklee’s online learning platform (currently Moodle). This new position will require strong collaboration skills and a proven ability to embrace innovative and experimental approaches. Also required is a solid understanding of the available tools, technologies and best practices with regard to embedding library resources in online courseware and successfully deploying virtual reference services. In collaboration with other members of the Library staff, this position will also lead and coordinate the in-person information literacy instruction and contribute to the in-library reference services.

Responsibilities

  • Provides leadership and ongoing support for the integration Library resources and services into the learning management platforms deployed at Berklee in support of fully online and blended courses.
  • Working closely with instructional technologists, faculty, media specialists and other librarians, identifies appropriate library and archival materials that promote and support the learning outcomes of supported courses.
  • Develops online tutorials, instruction sessions, workshops and presentations to promote general and course-specific information literacy goals.
  • Partners directly with the Director for Instructional Design on various special projects and initiatives related to Berklee’s course management platform and other digital learning tools.
  • Actively participates in campus discussions related to the utilization of educational technologies.
  • Pursues appropriate professional development activities to stay informed of best practices, new trends and innovative technologies.
  • Provides training to library staff and the campus community on new online learning and content access technologies and articulates how they apply to Library resources and services. Serve as advisor on resource-related issues, such as fair use and copyright compliance.
  • Pioneers experimental and innovative approaches to virtual and in-person library instruction and reference services. Develops and executes in-person library instruction programs. As needed, schedules and presents in-classroom course-related instruction, individual instruction sessions and in-library reference and other patron-facing services.
  • Serves as liaison librarian to Berklee’s leading Music Business department. Develop a strong understanding of Berklee’s music business curriculum and work collaboratively with faculty to identify how the Library can support the department’s teaching and research.
  • Contributes to the implementation and support of LibGuides, including when appropriate training library staff on its use.

Required Experience

  • MLS from an ALA accredited program. 
  • At least three years demonstrated success working with online learning technologies in a highly collaborative environment. Demonstrated understanding of instructional design principles in an online environment.
  • High comfort level working with technologically sophisticated tools and services related to content delivery and online instruction.
  • Solid understanding of the technologies and systems commonly deployed by libraries and publishers to provide access to purchased, licensed and locally-curated content.
  • Understanding of the major copyright issues facing academic libraries and higher education.
  • Experience with developing and implementing in-person library instruction/reference services.

Preferred Experience

  • Undergraduate degree in music and/or musical background strongly preferred.
  • Experience with Moodle.
  • Familiarity with issues and trends around the use of Library resources in MOOCs.
  • Solid understanding of the primary factors influencing and disrupting today’s music industry. Work experience in the music industry is a strong plus.
  • Experience with media creation and management.
  • Solid understanding of music copyright. 
  • Working familiarity with the ACRL Information Literacy Framework.
