West Valley College is in a beautiful park-like setting on 143 wooded acres in Silicon Valley. The Counseling Department is now accepting applications for a full time, tenure-track counselor with a student success and retention emphasis. This counselor will work in collaboration with student services programs, instructional programs, and campus-wide committees in the implementation, coordination, and overall operation of all aspects of counseling related functions for the college. The counseling responsibilities of this position include teaching and providing academic, career, and personal counseling.
This position also includes a permanent assignment to work with student success related programs and activities such as student retention, early alert, and academic probation and dismissal. This position may include work with learning communities that serve ethnically and socio-economically diverse and/or basic skills students.
In addition to counseling, this counselor is also expected to participate in the professional and academic work of the college. Applicants who possess the knowledge, skills, abilities, and life experiences to address the cultural and educational needs of a linguistically and culturally diverse student population are encouraged to apply.
This is a full-time, 11 month tenure track position that begins mid-semester, Spring 2016. The assignment consists of counseling and teaching. Some evening and weekend work is required.

We have begun a district-wide classification and compensation study. The compensation study will provide information on what other employers pay employees who are performing similar duties. The District will use this information to ensure that our employees are adequately compensated.
The classification & compensation study started in November 2014 and is expected to take approximately 12-18 months to complete. As a result of this study, it is possible for the compensation to change in this position opening.
