Academic Coach (two positions – one at Hamilton, OH Campus and one at Middletown, OH campus).
The TRiO Student Support Services (SSS) Academic Coach positions are granted funded, full-time, 11-month positions with full benefits. Academic Coaches reports directly to the Project Director of Student Support Services and are directly responsible for the daily execution of the project. The coaches will provide direct student contact through recruiting, advising, assessing, scheduling, evaluating, and providing support services when necessary. Coaches must also maintain current and accurate program files and meet other requirements for compliance with federal regulations and college policies.
1. Coaches will work with TRiO students to develop an Individual Assessment Portfolio (IAP) - assessing non-cognitive skills and outside stress factors that might negatively impact behaviors inside the academy.
2. Coaches will help TRiO students create Degree Accomplishment Plans (DAP), creating a roadmap of specific courses to guide students toward earning an Associate Degree on the way to their Bachelor's degree.
3. The coaches will have weekly check-ins with TRiO SSS participants during the first semester and every semester thereafter if a student's GPA falls below a 2.0.
4. Coaches will help TRiO students with technology and time management along with other good student behaviors.
5. The coaches will monitor student progress and have private conversations with students if needed.
6. Act as a referral source for personal counseling to the Counseling Center.
7. Assist participants with their orientation to general academic life and its requirements.
8. Develop programming activities and the collaboration with the STEP (Summer Time Enhancement Program).
9. Assist in identifying and/or selecting eligible students to participate in the program.
10. Develop and implement activities to promote student persistence and student growth.
11. Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Bachelor's degree with emphasis in education or related field; two years of experience advising, counseling, teaching or otherwise providing holistic student support in a collegiate environment; strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills and the ability to understand the needs of university students who are low income, first generations, and/or have disabilities; ability to learn and communicate detailed policies and procedures. Ability to work a flexible schedule that might include days, nights, and the occasional weekend.
Special consideration will be given to applicants who have participated in a SSS program and who have experience in the development and implementation of special programs or workshops for low-income or first generation students, students with disabilities, and students with academic need; experience with public speaking and/or teaching/training experience; proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite applications and a basic knowledge of social media.
