The University of Alabama (UA) seeks applications and nominations for the position Dean of the Graduate School and Associate Provost. A creative, visionary, motivational, and experienced leader is sought for these roles. As the Dean of the Graduate School, this position holds primary responsibility for actively fostering the ongoing growth of graduate education. In this position, the Dean will work to create collaborative relationships across campus, develop graduate programs, promote an inclusive and diverse graduate student population, and increase enrollment across the various disciplines. As the Associate Provost, this position focuses on issues of importance to faculty across the University such as promotion and tenure, sabbatical leave, and the development of new academic programs.

From just under 20,000 students in 2003, UA now boasts a student population of more than 37,000. Over the same period, graduate enrollment increased from 3,700 to more than 5,000 graduate and professional students, who are enrolled in more than 120 master’s, educational specialist, and doctoral programs. The next Dean of the Graduate School and Associate Provost will play a critical role as the University seeks to grow graduate educational programs and raise the research and scholarship profile.
The successful candidate will have an earned doctorate, a distinguished teaching and scholarship record that is consistent with tenure as a full professor in their discipline, and academic administrative experience. Applicants from all academic disciplines will be considered. Experience in graduate education and research is expected and experience in administrative and financial issues involved in supporting graduate education in a state supported, comprehensive, research institution is preferred.
