The Student Intervention and Achievement Specialist has responsibility for increasing GEAR UP students’ access to school programs, positive academic behaviors, family connection to critical school based information, post secondary access support (students and families,) and providing auxiliary support for academic engagement.
Will use research based methodologies and programs to guide practice and implementation of GEAR UP academic advising, family outreach, and GEAR UP student mentoring programs and will monitor, collect and document student data for assessment and reporting requirements. This position will confer with school counselor on student progress and recommendations for enhanced intervention services and summer school activities.
The GEAR UP program is funded with federal funds by the Department of Education grant whose purpose is to increase the number of low-income and underrepresented students who graduate from high school and successfully complete post secondary education.
This is a 10-month, part time (87.5% FTE), temporary , grant funded position contingent upon ongoing federal funding. The position is housed out of Benton City, WA.
Positions require a Bachelor’s degree and two (2) years of professional work experience in student services or related education/experience. A Master’s degree in a related field may substitute for one (1) year of professional work experience. Any combination of relevant education and professional experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year‐for‐year basis.
Demonstrated knowledge of school programs, student success, the school community and/or parental involvement in community and/or school settings.
Familiarity with organization and operation of secondary school/district administration and university/community college systems.
Strong interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with a diverse group of people, including peers, university and school administrators, faculty, and staff, students and parents, and the general public.
Experience managing, tracking and reporting program data.
Experience in student academic support programs.
