The Physician Assistant Department at Quinnipiac University invites applications for department chair/graduate program director. This is a full-time, 12-month faculty position. Reporting directly to the Dean, the successful candidate will be responsible for all administrative and curricular aspects of the PA program. Anticipated start date is July 1, 2016 but the position can be available earlier for the appropriate candidate.
The Physician Assistant Program was established in 1994, graduating its first class in 1996. We have Accreditation-Continued status by the Accreditation and Review Commission for Physician Assistant programs (ARC-PA). Our graduates continue to be very successful on PANCE and are able to consistently find employment in highly sought after positions. Our physician assistant program was just named among the top five in America for 2016 Best Graduate Schools by U.S. News & World Report.

The PA program is part of the School of Health Sciences which includes a comprehensive spectrum of health science programs. SHS joins the Netter School of Medicine and the School of Nursing in a new Center for Medicine, Nursing, and Health Sciences which provides an innovative, learner-centered environment. The primary responsibilities of this position include: Providing effective leadership and management to the Department of Physician Assistant Studies and its graduate PA program in order to assure the quality of academic offerings. Providing leadership to the department and program in the creation and implementation of its strategic academic mission; for overseeing the organization, administration and fiscal management; for assuring continuous review and assessment of all aspects of the program; and for meeting student needs. Overseeing the accreditation process and compliance with professional organization requirements. Supervising the medical director, full-time and part-time faculty and staff in all activities that directly relate to the PA program.
Additional responsibilities include: mentoring and the monitoring of student performance; active involvement in the recruitment, admission, and retention of students. Involvement and leadership in PA program community outreach programs. Providing oversight of the review and development of the educational curriculum; coordinating faculty retention, review, reappointment, promotion, tenure, and termination procedures consistent with University policy. Overseeing faculty workload and assign teaching schedules to meet student needs. Teaches within the PA program.
Qualifications for this position include graduation from an accredited physician assistant program, an earned Master’s Degree (doctorate preferred), minimum of five years of experience in graduate PA education. Experience as a department chair/program director preferred. Current NCCPA certification and timely obtainment of physician assistant licensure in the State of Connecticut is required. Applicant should have knowledge and experience with interprofessional education/interdisciplinary team development and participation, including good communication skills, familiarization with simulation technology and computer based software including database, word processing, and internet.
