Job Responsibilities

Develops legislative priorities for state and federal government

Responsible for the smooth execution of the College’s Government Relations plan

Compiles and coordinates production of Cuyahoga Community College information for government officials

Researches government initiatives and legislation that would affect the College and prepare detailed summary reports

Manages the contact database and drafts a regular e-newsletter to be distributed throughout the college and Advocacy Network subscribers

Maintains Federal, State and Local elected official, staff and economic development director databases

Maintains the Government Affairs and Community Relations website

Assists with the coordination of community special events and government related events as needed

Represents the department on behalf of the Vice President to explain payroll deduction campaign as directed

Prepares speeches as needed for Vice President and other senior managers

Performs other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications


Bachelor’s Degree and/or a minimum of eight years of experience with government relations or related field in the Northeast Ohio area

Demonstrated experience effectively making decisions that have significant, broad implications on the management and operations of a division or organization

Demonstrated experience in a role requiring diverse problem solving methods in a variety of situations


Possess comprehensive knowledge of non-profit civic community relations theories, concepts and practices with the ability to use in complex, difficult and/or unprecedented situations as it pertains to the departmental focus

Possess excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills

Possess strong organizational and time-management skills

Work accurately with great attention to detail

Ability to prioritize/handle multiple tasks and work with deadlines in a dynamic environment

Ability to promote collaboration, teamwork, and involve all stakeholders in decision-making processes

Excellent customer service skills and proven ability to develop and sustain productive customer relationships

Ability to independently set goals and determine best course of action to achieve desired results

Ability to monitor a business area’s budget

Intermediate-level proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel

Advanced-level proficiency with Microsoft PowerPoint

Ability to confidentially and discreetly handle subject matters requiring privacy and sensitivity

Ability to collaborate, persuade, gain cooperation and acceptance of ideas on significant projects

Ability to collaborate, negotiate and resolve conflicts on major projects

Ability to facilitate top-level collaboration while managing sensitive issues

Ability to develop and maintain relationships with key contacts to enhance work flow and quality

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Communication, Public Relations, or related field and/or a minimum of five years of experience with government and community relationships in the Northeast Ohio area

Work Schedule

Standard College hours of operation, Monday through Friday 8:30am – 5:00pm.
