Detailed Job Description

Berklee College of Music is seeking a full-time faculty member in the Professional Music Department. Reporting to the Chair of Professional Music, this faculty member will be responsible for teaching core and advanced professional music industry topics such as: Entrepreneurship, Professional Music Capstone Project, The Private Music Studio Teacher, The Business of Professional Music (Music Career Planning), and The General Business Gig. The successful candidate will be an experienced music professional and effective teacher who will actively contribute to the department and the Berklee community. This is a nine-month full-time position. Start date is September 1, 2016.  Compensation is commensurate with professional experience.


  • A record of teaching experience (college level preferred)
  • Documentation of engagement in the music industry
  • Mastery of core and advanced music industry principles such as: business, management, performance, strategies for independent music success, entrepreneurship, technology, and education
  • Evidence of scholarship/creative/professional activity demonstrating excellence and professional service
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

  • Command of technology to support teaching and learning
  • Ability and willingness to work within a diverse faculty and student body
  • Minimum masters degree in music required


  • Teach courses in the Professional Education Division as assigned
  • Advance the student experience and the work of the Department, the Division, and the College

  • Contribute to curriculum
development and review
  • Participate in initiatives that address Departmental and College goals

  • Serve on Department, Division, and/or College committees
as assigned
  • Attend meetings, hold office hours, and advise students
  • Contribute to Professional Music Department-sponsored special events
  • Maintain a professional profile
  • Other duties as assigned
