This position provide oversight and leadership, including volunteer management for the WSU 4-H Youth Development Extension Program of Whatcom County, which currently supervises over 125 adult volunteer club leaders that serve as many as 900 youth enrolled in more than 50 active clubs. This oversight includes the implementation of programs and activities that conform with the policies and procedures of WSU Extension, and specifically the 4-H Youth Development Program, under the direction of the Regional 4-H Specialist Faculty and the State 4-H Program Director.
A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant extension program discipline and two (2) years of related program experience. Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.
Educational background in animal sciences.
Three years of directly related experience in Extension or other youth development related program.
Extended teaching experience in informal or formal (i.e., school) settings.
Demonstrated cultural competency including Bilingual, Spanish.
Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced and creative environment emphasizing youth and adult development.
Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as in a team setting.
Demonstrated ability to communicate using oral and written skills.
Demonstrated ability to relate to and collaborate with a wide range of people from varied social and economic levels, ages, races, ethnic backgrounds as well as in rural, suburban, and urban settings.
Demonstrated competency in electronic communication methods and software for daily activities including programs in Microsoft office Suite.
Ability to act with professional discretion when resolving programmatic conflicts.
First Aid and CPR certified.
