Detailed Job Description

Provides technical stage and backstage support for theatrical and productions. Manages the technical aspects and daily operations of all theatrical facilities including event load-ins, set-ups, strikes, and use of the facility’s sound, lighting, stage, projection and other technical equipment and systems. Designs and creates sets for lighting, sound, and scenery. Estimates costs for preliminary designs from student or faculty designer plans and models. Creates structural designs and specifies construction methods and oversees staff involved in set, scenery and prop construction. Develops and monitors practices in the scene shop, backstage, and stage areas to ensure safe work environments. Collaborates with facility users in the planning coordination and execution of programs, services and events. Estimates projected technical costs for events and prepares labor, equipment and supply budgets. Organizes, manages, mentors, and trains students in a hands-on learning environment.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited institution with a bachelor’s degree in a related discipline plus three years of staff level experience or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience related to the Summary of Duties totaling seven years.


Knowledge of sound and lighting design, practices, principles, and implementation.

Knowledge of current information technologies systems as used in performing arts venues.

Knowledge of set and prop design and construction techniques.


Advanced skills with regard to construction and technical theater technology.

Superior stage and facility management skills, serving as the primary building manager for the Noorda Theatre and ExBox.

Excellent communication skills in order to train and supervise a labor force of various levels of proficiency.

Exceptional organizational and time management skills.

Strong problem-solving skills and ability to remain positive under occasional stressful conditions.


Ability to use CAD and/or Vectorworks in the generation of ground plans and lighting plots.

Ability to proficiently run audio during a live event.

Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as a team player.

Pay Range

$39,889 - $53,186
