Under the direct supervision of the Director of Admissions, Berklee Online, the Academic Advisor is the central point of contact for prospective and existing students for Berklee Online, Berklee College of Music’s online extension school. The Academic Advisor is responsible for recruiting qualified candidates for the online school and counseling and advising current students in an appropriate and professional manner, while maintaining a high level of service.

Use of Capabilities (Illustrated by Typical Activities)

  1. Recruit, evaluate, and participate in the selection of candidates for admission.
  2. Maintain liaison with all organizations and individuals involved in the admissions process.
  3. Advise parents and applicants about educational planning.
  4. Manage inquiries from prospective students through telephone, email, and occasional face-to-face meetings.
  5. Understand and communicate Berklee Online policies so that they are easily understandable to students.
  6. Make prompt and effective contacts to assure that enrollment goals are met.
  7. Participate in virtual open houses, regional presentations, orientation programs, career days, etc., as directed by the Admissions Director and Marketing Team.
  8. Advise prospective students on suitable programs in accordance with their qualifications and objectives.
  9. Maintain a customer database containing relevant information and profiles that can be used for research, targeting and customization.
  10. Help to plan, organize, and implement student success strategies to coach Berklee Online students through to graduation
  11. Encourage all students with counseling and advice
  12. Prepare and administer Academic Recovery Plans for students not meeting SAP requirements
  13. May have project or program responsibility.

  9. Some weekend and after hours work required when needed, usually around key deadlines
  10. Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment, mostly sitting
  11. At times it is required to stoop and bend when accessing filing cabinets, and occasionally lift materials not exceeding 50 pounds. Must be able to assist/set up booth at events.
  12. Demonstrated capacity to develop & maintain effective working relationships with individuals & organizations reflecting a broad range of identities, perspectives & experiences.

Required Experience

  1. College degree required, preferably with concentration in music and the music business.
  2. 1-2 years of successful sales and/or customer service experience.
  3. Database management experience.
  4. Knowledge of today’s music styles, leading musical figures, and the basic structure and organization of the music industry.
