Cannon Library

The Library Department is seeking qualified candidates for a full-time, tenure track faculty position as Collection Development Librarian at our main campus in Saint Leo, Florida.

This is a twelve month, full-time faculty appointment at the Assistant rank.

Review of candidate materials begins immediately for anticipated start date of January 4, 2015. A candidate must possess a Master’s degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited program.

Basic Function:

Coordinates planning and management of all aspects of Technical Services, including acquisitions, cataloging, collection development, online resources and serials/periodicals.

1) Performs monographic and media acquisitions and collection management activities;
a. Responsible for some selecting and all ordering of library resources.
b. Maintains close communication with faculty and staff in order to have a good understanding of patron and program information needs.
c. Expends book budget and provides informational, financial and statistical reports regarding library resource acquisition.
d. Monitors encumbrances and expenditures for library materials and oversees maintenance of budget records for Cannon Library.
e. Responsible for working with and monitoring the performance of vendors. Establishes and maintains effective business relationships with book vendors and electronic service providers.
f. Review and maintain records for donated materials.
g. Develops and maintains the Cannon Library’s Acquisitions Manual and Collection Development Policy.

2) Coordinates with the Catalog Librarian for cataloging and classification of library materials, authority control, and for general maintenance and accuracy of the online public access catalog.

3) Coordinates with the Catalog Librarian in overseeing preparation of the library collections for analysis and evaluation.

4) Coordinates with Online Resources Librarian for online acquisitions and management activities, procedures and workflow practices.

5) Coordinates with the Online Resources Librarian and the Library Technology Specialist to resolve online access issues and problems.

6) Establishes collection development policies and procedures, including collection evaluation, and oversees their implementation,
a. Reviews collections and works with teaching faculty and librarians to facilitate selection and ordering of library materials.
b. Consults with deans and teaching faculty regarding specific program needs.

7) Maintains monthly statistical reports; prepares and submits annual report on Technical Services activities to Director of Library Services. Develops and prepares reports regarding Library resources to outside agencies.

8) Participates in other areas of library services including library instruction and library presentations.

Required Education/Experience/Skills:

- Master’s degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited program.
- Awareness of current and emerging trends in librarianship and information technology.
- Remains knowledgeable of current and emerging trends in acquisitions, collections and electronic resource management.
- Seeks opportunities to introduce new methods and technologies to improve service when possible.
- Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to work in a complex, team-based environment and with a diverse user group.
- Ability to foster a cooperative work environment and manage change.
- Ability to learn new software releases and standard software packages, including research databases.
- Prefer experience with OCLC’s WMS.
- Ability to write and implement Technical Services policies and procedures.
- Strong service orientation.
- Flexibility.

Minimum Qualifications:

- Master’s degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited program.
- Two years of post-Master’s degree academic library experience.
- Experience in either acquisitions, cataloging, serials, or some other aspect of technical services.

Preferred Qualifications:

- Second Master’s degree preferred.
- Acquisitions experience in academic library preferred.
- Supervisory experience in academic library preferred.
