The Residential Education Director is a full-time, 10 month, live-in professional appointment overseeing the management of a residence hall of 145 – 600 students.
Depending on hall assignment, responsibilities include, but are not limited to: supervision of paraprofessional staff, administration of special programs (academically themed housing initiatives, theme hall programming, Honors programs, etc.), adjudicating contract violations, personal counseling, programming, budget development and management, community development, crisis management and conflict resolution, committee work, collateral assignments within the Office of Student Affairs as well as, emergency on-call responsibilities.
A Bachelor’s degree and two (2) years of relevant residence hall leadership, paraprofessional or group living experience and demonstrated experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. A Master’s degree in College Student Personnel/Higher Education Administration/Counseling Psychology or a related field may be substituted for one (1) year of experience.
Possess, or be able to obtain at time of hire, a valid unrestricted driver’s license.
Demonstrated ability to work with students and administrators in a broad range of situations and demonstrate a genuine concern/interest for the welfare of students.
Demonstrated communication skills, public relation skills, public speaking skills.
Demonstrated ability to work independently under pressure and the ability to proactively meet deadlines.
Demonstrated commitment to and knowledge of student development and academic success.
Demonstrated ability to work with a diverse student and staff population.
Experience with administrative functions of a residence hall, such as working with budgets and occupancy.
Demonstrated ability to work collegially and collaboratively with diverse internal and external constituencies.
Demonstrated commitment to and/or experience advocating for diversity.
