The Department of Justice and Community Studies at Miami University’s Regional Campuses (Ohio) seeks to fill a nine-month, assistant professor, tenure-track criminal justice position in the area of policing to begin the Fall Semester 2016. The department currently offers Associate and Bachelors’ degrees and will begin an online Master’s program in Fall 2016. Responsibilities include teaching a variety of undergraduate courses in law enforcement and in at least one other area, and may include online teaching in the Master’s program; student advising; providing service to the department and university; and maintaining a program of scholarship. Position may involve teaching at any one of Miami’s regional locations but the primary appointment will be to either the Hamilton or Middletown campus.
Ph.D. in criminal justice or a related field (completed by December 31, 2016 for re-appointment to second year); evidence of expertise in policing through coursework, research, and/or experience in the field; evidence of teaching excellence; evidence of ability to maintain a program of high quality scholarship (evidenced by working papers or papers under review); and willingness to apply one’s disciplinary expertise in the field.
Strong candidates will need: Policing focus; secondary area is open but special attention will be given to applicants who can teach comparative justice systems or race and criminal justice; experience teaching in online formats; evidence of meaningful public service/scholarship. A J.D. alone is not sufficient for this position.
