The district's population is approximately 221,700 with a service area population of 297,800. Residents enjoy California living at its best, with a mild year-round climate and an ideal location for quality living.

Allan Hancock College is an award-winning California public community college located in northern Santa Barbara County. Approximately 11,000 credit students and 5,000 community education students choose Hancock each semester to begin a bachelor's degree, earn an associate degree, prepare for a career or upgrade their skills.
The college is a leader in its approach to student-centered teaching and its commitment to hiring employees who are creative, open to change, and passionately supportive of the learning process.

In 2011, the Aspen Institute College Excellence Program ranked Allan Hancock College as one of the five best community colleges in California and one of the nation's top 120 community colleges.
