Job Description:

Reporting to the Associate Director of Marketing, the Writer/Editor will write, edit, and proofread marketing and educational materials for Berklee Online. In addition, s/he will maintain style guidelines and ensure consistency of standards across all marketing and curricular efforts. The ideal candidate is experienced, creative, and versatile with a demonstrated ability to produce high­quality written materials in a timely manner.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Write copy for a variety of channels, including email, print (e.g. the Berklee Online course catalog or consumer advertising), and Berklee Online’s website and blog network.
  • Write catalog descriptions for new courses, certificate programs, and degree programs, and proofread and edit all existing copy on the website.
  • Work closely with the course development team to edit and update all lesson copy.
  • Develop and maintain voice and style guidelines for all Berklee Online copy.
  • Interview faculty course authors in order to write catalog descriptions for new courses, certificate programs,
  • and degree programs.
  • Write for the Berklee Online blog network, with the guidance of the blog network editor.
  • Work closely with the marketing and creative teams to develop, write, and edit video scripts, press releases,
  • campaigns, and radio spots as time allows.

Required Skills

  • Demonstrated strong written and oral communication skills, and the ability to maintain high levels of creativity and quality.

  • Outstanding command of American English grammar.

  • Demonstrated skill in writing about music and music instruction for higher education.

  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to meet deadlines, prioritize, and work on multiple projects simultaneously with great efficiency and attention to detail.

  • Ability to work well in a collaborative team environment as well as independently.

  • Proven ability to work & lead effectively in a highly diverse campus community.

Required Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, Creative Writing, or a related field.

  • At least five years experience writing, editing, and proofreading, preferably in music education.

  • Knowledge of music theory, production, and industry trends preferred.
