Maintains greenhouse and assists in maintenance of native plant garden. Supervises co-workers and student assistants. Works with students to improve their horticulture techniques and design and execute research projects. Orders and manages teaching and greenhouse supplies. Teaches courses in Horticulture and related topics.
Graduation from an accredited institution with a Master’s degree in an area of expertise commensurate with the duties and responsibilities of the position; OR, a related combination of education and experience totaling six years.
M.Sc.in Horticulture or closely related field highly preferred.
Experience in greenhouse management required.
Knowledge of the use and maintenance of greenhouse facilities and equipment.
Knowledge of ordering and inventory control of supplies, equipment, and/or services.
Knowledge of chemical, hazardous waste, industrial hygiene, and/or environmental health standards.
Knowledge of accreditation and certification requirements and standards.
Knowledge of laboratory and experimental equipment protocols and procedures.
Skills in budget preparation and fiscal management.
Skills in employee development and performance management.
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
Ability to analyze and solve problems.
Ability to utilize, calibrate, configure and/or troubleshoot laboratory testing systems and instruments.
Ability to provide technical guidance and training to end users.
Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures.
Ability to investigate and analyze information and draw conclusions.
Ability to supervise and train employees, to include organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments.
Ability to foster a cooperative work environment.
