Southern Illinois University Carbondale invites applications and nominations for the position of Assistant Director of University Housing (Education & Outreach). SIU Carbondale is a Carnegie doctoral research extensive public university with a diverse student population of over 17,000 students from throughout the United States and over 100 foreign countries. The department of University Housing is a 39 million dollar operation consisting of over 6,000 bed spaces, apartment and residence hall communities, academic initiative programs including expansive Living-Learning Community programs, and a self-operated dining service. Starting date is as soon as possible.
The Position: Reporting directly to the Senior Associate Director of University Housing - Residence Life, the Assistant Director is expected to lead an area of University Housing by providing educational, advising, programming, and leadership development through cross-campus collaborative efforts. Works directly with summer camps and conferences, living learning communities, faculty and university associate, and underrepresented groups in University Housing to positively impact retention to University Housing and Southern Illinois University Carbondale.
Responsibilities: Direct conference operations for Housing, annually serving 1,000+ guests and generating $150,000+ in revenue. Direct, plan, develop and implement programs and initiatives to enhance academic success in the resident halls and increase awareness of first-year student issues and processes. Oversee Living Learning Communities. Chair and coordinate monthly LLC meetings with members of the faculty, administrative professional staff, and students. Hire, train, and evaluate full-time employees, graduate assistants and students. Provide crisis/emergency response to on-campus populations of 4,400 in on-call rotation.
Qualifications: A master's degree in college student personnel, or related field with 4 years post-master's experience. Direct and demonstrated experience with living learning communities and conference services required. Strong communication, organizational, interpersonal, and leadership skills are preferred. A demonstrated ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment is also preferred.
