The Behavioral Science department is searching for Instructional Assistants to facilitate a large section of PSY 1010 – General Psychology. This position attends one hour of class with students per week and participates in a weekly one-hour staff meeting; leads a breakout session with students once a week; grades students work; and frequently communicates with students.
High school diploma or equivalent plus two years education at an accredited institution in a major or discipline related to the Summary of Duties or an associate’s degree in a discipline related to the Summary of Duties is required.
Independent teaching experience at the college level.
Supervised teaching experience at the college level.
Completion of PSY475R: Introduction to Undergraduate Pedagogy with an “A” grade.
Behavioral Science Major
Extensive knowledge and familiarity with the material presented in PSY1010: General Psychology. This includes, but is not limited to: the history of the field, brain and behavior, neuroscience, sensation, perception, human development, consciousness, classical and operant conditioning, memory, thinking, problem solving, reasoning, human intelligence, social psychology, health, stress, coping, psychological disorders, and treatments for psychological disorders.
Knowledge in current best practices in the pedagogy of higher education, including, but not limited to: classroom management, assignment creation, discussion facilitation, diversity, ADA requirements and accommodation, assessment creation, and active/engaged learning.
Knowledge and experience with Canvas, InQuizitive, Microsoft Office, and UVU’s smart classrooms.
Knowledge and understanding of the hybrid structure associated with PSY1010: General Psychology.
Must be skilled in Canvas and the Microsoft Suite.
Ability to create appropriate instructional materials.
Ability to conduct breakout sessions independently.
Ability to create and use of rubrics for written work.
Must be able to deliver breakout session materials using UVU’s smart classrooms.
