The Office of the Vice President is responsible for the Operations Division which serves the three Tufts campuses: Medford/Somerville, Boston and Grafton. The Operations Division encompasses the following departments: 1. Department of Facilities Services, which includes comprehensive operations and management, energy and capital project management; 2. Public and Environmental Health and Safety, Dining and Business Services, University Space Management and Planning, and Real Property Services. A new department, the Department of Strategic Capital Program Delivery, will manage selected high priority, high cost capital projects. The position described in this summary will be the Director of the new department. Reporting to the Vice President of Operations, the Strategic Capital Projects Director will oversee the planning, design, construction and transition to operations of major capital projects. The Strategic Capital Program Director is responsible for project delivery of multiple Tufts capital projects through management of a team of senior project managers, which may include both Tufts employees and consultant project managers. The Director will set best practice standards for project management processes, systems and building performance standards and will ensure that the management of strategic projects meet this standard, ensuring that the work of consultants, design teams and construction managers on major new construction and renovation projects meets Tufts goals for quality, cost and schedule. The Director is responsible for comprehensive project risk management and reporting, including oversight of project schedules and budgets from planning through project closeout. With the Vice President, the Director facilitates and ensures effective communication with key University decision-makers, including Deans, the Executive Vice President, the President and Trustees. The Director works closely with the project clients (the Project Sponsor Group or PSG) making sure that the program objectives are met and keeps stakeholders well-informed of project status through regular team meetings and presentations. The Director establishes communications protocols and acts to address issues affecting project program, budget, scope, timeline or delivery and takes leadership role to resolve areas of disagreement between project stakeholders. A key responsibility is to demonstrate good communication and to model teamwork among the multiple organizations whose joint effort is necessary to deliver high performing building projects that meet Tufts' needs. Job Requirements Basic Requirements: * Ten (10) years of related experience * Bachelor's degree in architecture, urban design, project management, business or related disciplines. * Must be skilled in Microsoft Office. * Significant experience in building project management at a variety of scales in new construction and renovation types. * Proven skills in planning, problem solving, excellent judgement, exceptional organization, communication, collaboration and presentation skills. * Demonstrated experience in developing and fostering positive relationships leading to organizational change and project results with multi-disciplinary/diverse constituencies in a highly decentralized, consensus-oriented environment. * The finalist for this position must successfully complete all appropriate background checks. Preferred Qualifications: * Ten plus (10+) years of experience preferred. * Master's degree in architecture, urban design, planning, business, project management or a related discipline is highly desirable. * Experience in management of campus planning and building projects similar to those in the Tufts capital plan or in other educational institutions is a plus. * Familiarity with on-line project management systems is desirable.
